Artificial Topiaries
One thing that I've been concentrating on looking at lately are artificial topiaries. I think I must have seen one in every possible shape and size by now! I'm sure that I can come up with a place for a lot of them. It's just a matter of deciding what it is I want to accomplish, and drawing a, sort of, mental floorplan up. Or maybe an actual floorplan on paper. That might help me solidify the idea. But I'm not sure if I want to go that far. I was never much of a doodler. I could do something really simple though.

The great thing about artificial topiaries is that there isn't any upkeep. I was thinking that I would use a bunch of them around the house. Imagine having to trim twenty tiny trees every week to keep them looking their best. That would be ridiculous. Not to mention the fact that I have no idea how to do it. It would probably turn into me massacring all my trees unrecognizable in less than a month.
I was thinking that to start off with, two artificial topiaries framing the front door would be good. I like the ones that have a long, round shape and are in those grey pots with designs at the rim. I think that having one on each side of the door, outside the house gives it kind of a regal look. It might be a bit much. Our home isn't a mansion or anything like that. We were on a budget. But I still think it would look good.
The next thing that I was considering is to get a few artificial topiaries to put inside rooms. The designs they come up with are really amazing. There's a boxwood that's long and thing, in a corkscrew kind of shape. Or if I wanted to go for a completely classic look, there's always the tree in an urn with a long trunk and a round puff of green at the top. I think I could find a place for one in every room.
Putting artificial topiaries everywhere would probably be a bit much though. If you have them all over the place, they lose their punch. The real trick will be trying to decide which room should have one and which shouldn't. I just want to put them everywhere. I think I secretly have a desire to have a green thumb. As long as that doesn't mean that I have to actually grow anything! I tried that once. I forgot to water it and this did not go well for me. I told my husband that and his response was that it went even worse for the plant. He tells me not to kill again.
I think that's another thing that really attracts me to artificial topiaries. If you aren't good with plants to begin with, then this is really the way to go. Unless you can afford to hire a gardener or something. Even though I've never heard of a gardener for the inside of a house. But they probably exist. We can't afford that though.
